Significance

A novel n-type conductive polymer is designed and synthesized, featuring electron-withdrawing maleimide fused to every other vinylene unit in the polyacetylene backbone.

Comment

The polymer is prepared via ring-opening metathesis of maleimide-fused cyclobutene followed by oxidation, and exhibits excellent stability (LUMO = −4.35 eV) and conductivity (σ = 22 S/cm).
